Pita Rona is not the only college student selected in the team with Wellington's Jerome Raemaki being the other. The team leaves on Saturday for the 20-day tour which will see the side play a number of games including the Legends of Fastball Classic tournament in Kitchener, Canada and the Peligro tournament in New York. He was the leading pitcher at the Interislander National Fastpitch Championship and then backed up that performance by taking out the same award while playing for club side Waitakere Bears at the national interclub tournament. Both teams were effectively shut down in the last three innings once Schollum returned to his USI squad and Marlborough-born Hayes took the mound for the national side. Jerome Haretuku drove the ball to centre field and was scored by Dan Tarapi who hit to the fence. They will also play in two major club tournaments - the Brother Patrick and Dean Schick tournaments in Auckland - ahead of the world championships at Rosedale Park from March 1-10.
