Capsule Wardrobe: 20 Colorful Work Outfits for Fall

When it comes to 9-to-5 style, there's nothing wrong with having a uniform. A coat is another nice idea for creating a layered look in the fall or winter. Jeans, pants or a pretty knee skirt with a shirt, a sweater or a turtleneck and a coat over it all is right what you need for a cold day. Change shoes for booties, add gloves and a scarf and voila! Vests can be worn underneath your coat instead of sweaters if it’s not too cold. Fall is here, and dressing for the season can be tough.

If that top also lacks any details on the top and has a higher neckline, it’s not going to create my best look. Likewise, a crop top might “fit me” but it would also highlight how short my torso is. Another solid color top was chosen for this outfit. A rich brown long-sleeve top with pleated tan trousers and neutral shoes looks sophisticated without looking like you tried too hard.

Asymmetric hems were a big runway trend. And they make for an easy update to your work skirts.

Sweaters like these are a fall staple that you will wear again and again. This is a fabulous addition to just about any one of your fall work outfits! Long cardigans are the cozy way to look stylish. You can create a more elaborate look by pairing the cardigan with a fitted shirt or keep it casual by wearing it over a flare dress or jumpsuit. I always talk about how you should take fashion risks and wear things that bring you JOY!

Skirts are fun but can be challenging to pair sometimes. If you are not sure what color to pair with the skirt, always go for the top in the same color family as the skirt. For example, In Outfit #2 I wore a same color floral design top as the skirt.

Puff-Sleeve Top, a Leather Midi Skirt, and Heels

I wore the second dress to my niece’s wedding and it’s a really gorgeous dress. I love the puff sleeve, strategic cutout, full skirt, black, brown, and white color combo, and the longer length. It’s becoming common to wear jeans to work even if it’s only on Fridays. However, your jeans are for dressing up, not dressing down. So here are a few tips for wearing your jeans to the office. When choosing dress pants, choose a pair in a neutral shade for versatility, like black or tan.

Not only are skirts stylish; they’re versatile. Pair a soft sweater in a coordinating color with plaid flare cut pants. The combination of pink and brown is perfect in the fall. I also find wide-leg pants to be more elegant looking than skinny pants, but both can have a place in your wardrobe. The trouser leg is also a classic shape that doesn’t go out of style. A pair of neutral flats are also a must for business casual looks.

Thigh High Boots

These will instantly transform your look for the new season. Something like this is also perfect for busy ladies on the go. If you don’t have time to pick out the perfect outfit just wear jeans, a top and finish off with your poncho. If you’re looking for a stylish sweater then have a look at this one. Not only that but it will suit anything from jeans and sneakers to a skirt and boots.

The point is a smoother drapey fabric will be more classy than a rough or stiffer fabric, especially in a print. A woman may not necessarily be remembered for every detail of her outfit, but more for the way she conducts herself. Looking sharp, polished and put together is part of that experience. If the weather is on the warmer side, some pleated shorts and a knit vest and cardigan set on top make for a cool monochromatic moment. Yes, you can wear a crop top to the office—just match the hem of your top with the waist of your bottom so as to not expose any skin. Take the snooze factor out of black and khaki by opting for a square-neck ribbed top, slouchy suit trousers, and a polished dome ring as a modern accent.

They aren’t necessarily “trendy” but classy chic outfits are current. And no, we're not talking about a pair of nondescript black pants plus a no-wrinkle button-down. Here we break down five office-friendly fall outfit pairings you'll want to wear for months. Come up with your own version of each look, or stick with one you like .

If you want to have a little more sophistication at the game, bust out something like this! I’m wearing a pair of old Mother distressed jeans but I’ll link something similar. To stay warm, I’m wearing a Herno high-neck puffer.

Classy is defined as “elegant, stylish” Classy means admirably skillful and graceful. A plaid number with some stylish clogs just screams "fall" while still being work-appropriate. An elegant knit and a pair of made-for-you trousers will start your work-week off on the right foot.

This outfit features ankle pants that can be dressed up or down. If you've been going back to an office, it was probably an adjustment—it def was for me! Hey, it even might make you team workwear over your typical lineup of sweats, pajamas, and slippers just because you wanna switch things up. With a new season just a couple months away, you might want a work outfit refresh, whatever that means for you. Or to go out in during your usual midday coffee break. A blouse can become super trendy if you have a deep cut neckline.

A lot of these pieces, I had them for more than 2 years now like the banana trousers, pumps, the cardigans, and most tops. One of my favorite “occasions” is…a cozy day at home with absolutely nothing on the calendar! Even though you’re not doing much, you still want to feel put together, comfortable, and like you can comfortably answer the door if you need to. This set is by Jenni Kayne and you may remember it from this post where I feature some of the best loungewear trends. I love the combo of these two pieces together, but you could wear them as separates too.

Solid color tops are elegant, but prints can have a place in classy chic outfits. Smaller prints like florals are feminine and feminine pieces help you pull off elegant looks. Your favorite white T-shirt and jeans might not sound all that dressy, but tuck in the shirt and add a double-breasted blazer for an instantly chic work outfit. Complete it with comfortable loafers if you’re on your feet for most of the day. A matching set, like this white top and skirt, is an effortlessly elevated approach to fall work outfits. For an autumnal spin, walnut-colored ankle boots are sleek in contrast.

For a fashion-forward fall work outfit, try a stirrup jumpsuit over slingback pumps. To keep your outfit sharply in focus, pull your hair back with a polished pin. Don't limit your florals to just spring/summer.
